Portland, Ore……..Diane Dennis founded Age At Home Service LLC, a Geriatric Care Management agency recently to fulfill the gap between medical intervention and needs of seniors with chronic health conditions wanting to age in place.
According to the National Institute of Health, we are heading toward an aging collision course with available resources that will, by 2030, reach dire problems unless families and communities make cultural shifts in attitudes towards aging.
Diane Dennis, R.N. (ret), discovered this serious need personally. For the last decade Dennis has been the President of a marketing and PR agency, having left the medical field several years ago. It was after four family members became ill and died in a few short years, that her priorities changed. It is common for relatives to rely on those family members with medical expertise, and her family was eager for her assistance. She case managed her beloved family members, taking them to doctors, interpreting their health results to siblings, cousins and other family, setting up in home care, and taking them through palliative care, hospice, and the death and dying process.
As a former Home Health R.N. with Providence, and a Director of Nurses at an Assisted Living Facility, case management was a specialty that Dennis did not realize was a growing need for an expanding aging population, many with preferences to age at home. Now that the quarantine has isolated seniors, the need is greater for servicing seniors in their homes to make sure medications, nutrition and fluids are keeping seniors with pre-existing medical conditions stabilized, to reduce exposure to emergency departments and hospitals.
Diane Dennis was recently interviewed on KATU TV’s Afternoon Live to discuss ways to keep seniors healthy, stable, and safe at home during the Quarantine due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
